In the year 1876, Tsar Alexander II, lover of Louis Roederer's Champagnes, asked the latter to develop a cuvée for his personal use. Louis then proposed a transparent crystal bottle in which to elaborate the best selection of the 7 crus of his Domaine. Thus was born the Cristal, which took its name from the transparent flat bottom bottle, crystal at the time, used by Roederer to bottle this magnificent Champagne.
It is made from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, coming from the prestigious region of the Montagne de Reims, in the heart of the AOC Champagne, harvested and selected by hand when perfectly ripe. After the classic vinification processes, the sparkling process takes place according to the Champenoise Method, by refermentation in the bottle, with an aging of 6 years on its own levites and a further 8 months in the bottle, following disgorgement.
Tasting Notes
The Cristal by Louis Roederer is characterized by a bright straw yellow color, with amber reflections and a fine and persistent perlage. The nose opens with evident fruity aromas of lemon and candied orange, with floral notes of lily and aromas of freshly toasted dried fruit. On the palate it is decisive and round, with a pleasant softness and creaminess, with a fresh citrus finish.
Pairings
Perfect to accompany refined dishes of fish, oysters, shellfish and caviar.
