The Barbaresco signed by Gaja is one of the most prestigious, elegant and well-known Italian wines all over the world, endowed with immense richness and expressiveness. It is obtained from pure Nebbiolo grapes, grown in the well-known Piedmontese municipality that gives the name to the appellation. The bunches, selected with almost maniacal care, come from 14 owned vineyards located at varying altitudes between 250 and 330 meters above sea level while the extremely low yields, typical in the Gaja house, are around 40 hl. The fermentation takes place in steel containers and the refinement foresees 6 months of rest in barriques and another 18 in large oak barrels.
In the glass it wears an intense ruby red which over time turns towards garnet. Really very rich nose, able to bring together two souls, one more typical and traditional and another more modern; from dried violet to wild berries, from dog rose to licorice, from cocoa to cloves. And then again touches of vanilla, cinnamon and graphite. After several minutes dedicated to the olfactory part, we move on to tasting, which knows how to be both caressing and vigorous, impressive and with a velvety tactility.
Perfect to accompany game dishes such as venison stew, roasted or pan-fried quail, roasted guinea fowl. The more important the wine, the more it will be able to handle strong and marked flavors and sensations. Traditionally, Barbaresco is ideal with truffle-based dishes. Also excellent as a meditation wine.
