Description

Rediscovered stories - Contrada wines

Starting from 2014, a team of agronomists and soil experts of international reach, together with the oenologists of Mandrarossa, carried out a scientific study on calcareous soils which allowed to identify a microterroir with a very high qualitative potential. From the mapping of these soils, unique vineyards emerged.

The best known native Sicilian variety in the world, which comes from two vineyards cultivated on 100% calcareous soils. Intense, fresh and unique, both in the aromas and in the drink: it is the Nero d'Avola di Sicilia “Terre del Sommacco”. Fermentation takes place in “tulip” cement barrels, where the wine rests for eight months before being aged for another 19 months in untoasted French oak barrels. The result is a red wine with character, rich in juicy ripe fruits, then crossed by a very pleasant freshness.

Terre del Sommacco narrates a historical fact that intersects with a moment of private life lived by the great-grandfather of the winemaker who owns the vineyards where the wine is born. This is the story of the Orsini column which was part of Garibaldi's enterprise in Sicily.

Tasting Notes

Ruby red the color of the glass. Fragrant and pleasantly fruity with notes of cherry, blackberry and violet; on the palate it is soft, fruity with delicate tannins and lively freshness.

Pairings

Ideal to accompany meat dishes, it is excellent with braised meat in red wine, stuffed roast turkey and grilled fillet.
