The desire to express the exceptional qualities of the estate has been the basis of Ornellaia's philosophy from the very beginning. Ornellaia is a cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, a faithful expression of a unique terroir that has always been in harmony with nature.
The 2014 vintage of Ornellaia was one of the most demanding in memory, however it made it possible to produce high quality wines capable of offering great pleasure. The late ripening of the grapes allowed the fruit to express its liveliness and freshness to the maximum. What is particularly striking is the high quality of the tannins on the palate: silky, refined, without angularity. This vintage represents the heart of the estate, "L'Essenza" by Ornellaia: its natural style, the exceptional quality of its terroir and the skill of those who work in the vineyards and in the cellar.
The Brazilian artist Ernesto Neto was chosen to interpret the character "L'Essenza" of the 2014 vintage of Ornellaia. For the ninth edition of the Vendemmia d'Artista project he created a work of art for the estate, personalized a limited series of large-format bottles and designed a label which, expressing the character of the vintage, was inserted into each Ornellaia box containing 6 750ml bottles.
Deep ruby red colored glass, of marvelous luster. The nose persuades with intense and fine sensations of red pulp fruit, with an elegant spiciness and hints of mushroom and bark. Balanced, wide, round mouth, with velvety tannins and an alcoholic structure that reveals a great aging capacity. A generous wine in this vintage, persistent and mineral, with a long finish played on fruity and spicy notes.
It is enhanced with second courses based on game or red meats. Sublime also with refined risottos and important cheeses.
