“La Grande Année” is a name of evident simplicity, which however wants to underline the exceptional state of this wine as much as possible. In the Bollinger fashion house only vintages that are truly out of the ordinary have the privilege of being vintage. The harvest proved to be truly extraordinary as the Champagne obtained with the grapes harvested in that year are extraordinary. Bollinger's Champagne Brut “La Grande Année” ferments in tonneaux and follows a period of aging in the cellar more than twice as long as required by the specification of the appellation. Even if it has already been said, it is worth repeating: it is an extraordinary Champagne.
Tasting Notes
It comes in an elegant pink and antique gold dress. It captivates the nose with aromas that testify to the passage in tonneaux: toasted bread and grape brandy. It has unprecedented notes of exotic spices, rhubarb and stone fruits. There are hints of black cherries, currants and almonds. In the mouth it is very persistent and proves to have a remarkable structure, with the perlage that leaves the palate smooth and silky.
Pairings
It goes perfectly with scallops, grilled oysters or a wild hen accompanied by potatoes and truffles.
