In 1853, Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild bought the Château Brane-Mouton, located in the heart of the Médoc, in Pauillac, at auction. He renames the property "Château Mouton Rothschild". In 1924, it was Baron Philippe de Rothschild who took the reins of the property and had the visionary idea of bottling directly on the estate, also designing the cru label. 1973 is the year in which Château Mouton Rothschild is awarded the title of Premier Cru Classé. Emblem of the Pauillac appellation, Château Mouton Rothschild honors the great wines of Bordeaux all over the world.
Located north-west of Bordeaux, in the Médoc, the Château Mouton Rothschild vineyard extends over 90 hectares. The vines are planted on gravelly soils that capture the heat to release it during the night, thus favoring the ripening of the grapes. These draining soils rest on a subsoil of clay and gravel, which gives the wines of Château Mouton Rothschild their unique intensity, elegance and tannic structure.
Mouton Rothschil is wonderfully intense, garnet reflections and the nose is highly refined, aromas of blackcurrant and cedar wood with caramel and cooked fruit. The attack is lush, the palate rich, on elegant, well-rounded tannins. Shoulder to shoulder fruit flavors with spices and eucalyptus. The finish of this Pauillac is very expressive, long and powerful, harmonious and silky.
It goes well with game dishes, especially wild boar served with fruit sauces.
