Son of the homonymous Tuscan hill where once there was a swamp and where today Merlot vines grow on soils with unique characteristics, in a particularly favorable microclimate, Masseto is the King of Italian wines.
Opening a bottle is equivalent to unleashing a liquid kaleidoscope. A rare combination of sumptuous opulence and refined elegance. In homage to its vigor, its softness and the enormous debt towards the soil from which it originates, Masseto owes its name to the hard blocks of blue clay, called "massi", which form on the surface of the vineyard.
2015 turned out to be an almost textbook vintage. The regularity, together with the ideal temperatures during the harvest, are reflected in a classic Masseto, with a perfect balance between mature and complex aromatic expression of great freshness and a rare quality of broad, silky and soft tannins.
Dark and intense in color and rich in aromas with notes of fully ripe and spicy red fruits, balsamic and cocoa. In the mouth it becomes sensual and rich, with a great density and ample and perfectly soft tannins. The fruity notes are underlined by the subtle presence of oak wood, ending in a fresh and vivid finish with pronounced hints of cocoa.
Ideal to combine with game and game dishes, it is wonderful with the leg of roe deer with juniper, but like all great wines, it is also wonderful to sip on its own.
